2019 Fukuoka City Health and Safety Workshop (training session) held
12/25/2019

The Fukuoka City Health and Safety Workshop (training session) was held over two Saturdays, on December 7 and 21, 2019. This year's workshop, held for the third time, is part of the Health and Safety Workshop organized by the Guidance and Auditing Section, Childcare Support Division, Children's Future Bureau, Fukuoka City. About 45 nursery teachers and nurses, mainly working in nursery schools in Fukuoka City, participated in both sessions. Through lectures and simulation training sessions, they learned how to stay calm and properly deal with sudden changes in children's conditions during childcare.

Dr. Hitomi Hayashi, a pediatrician at Fukuoka University Hospital, was the first speaker. She gave a lecture on infant convulsions and explained in detail how to deal with convulsions, what must be avoided during convulsions, and the kinds of febrile convulsions that could happen at a nursery school.

To learn how to deal with convulsions, in the simulation training the Sim junior (an interactive pediatric simulator) was used. In the setting of a nursery school, the participants simulated their respective roles and teamwork to identify what should be observed if convulsions occur. Specific questions were raised in the debriefing session, such as what is required during emergencies and when is an appropriate time to call an ambulance for transporting the patient, which indicated that they had hypothetical scenarios in their minds about their own reactions at their facilities. They said they would share their experiences with colleagues when they go back to work.

In the training for removing accidentally swallowed objects and resuscitation, a pediatrician from Fukuoka University Hospital was invited as a lecturer. Using the simulator and child figures, the participants checked their knowledge and skills.
